Events Foundry Congress, fairs begin today Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Feb. 5 AIMED at focusing on the developments in the Indian foundry and steel industries that play a key role in shaping the country's economy, the Institute of Indian Foundrymen (IIF) is organising the 52nd Indian Foundry Congress under the title `India-The Emerging Hub for Cast Components' here from Friday. The three-day meet is being organised at the HITEX Fair grounds along with three world-class platforms for the foundry and metal industries Foundrex India, Castings India and Metallurgy India, according to Mr Norbert Schmidt, Managing Director of CIDEX Trade Fairs, the organisers of the fair. According to him, India currently occupies sixth position in production of ferrous and non-ferrous castings in the world and the companies and technocrats from all over the world are now targeting India as the hub for these industries. Addressing a press conference here on Thursday to announce the details of the fair, Mr Schmidt said the Foundry Congress and fairs would bring together buyers and producers of castings and casting components, experts in the foundry field from academic and management background to provide an environment for technology transfer, review of latest developments and techniques in metal casting for a variety of applications with special focus on aluminium. On the three top line exhibitions for the foundry and metal industry, he said Foundrex India would be an international exhibition on foundry technology, equipment and supplies, Castings India would showcase castings technology and services, while Metallurgy India would be an International exhibition on metals, metallurgical technologies and services. While Foundrex India is being staged in the country for the second time, Castings India and Metallurgy India were first-time shows. The first event of Foundrex India held in Goa during February 2002 drew 87 exhibitors from nine countries and over 3,100 trade visitors from 17 countries. According to him, 161 companies of which 47 were from overseas would participate in the shows.
