E-Seva centres to offer online medical advice

Hyderabad , Feb. 6

DOWN with severe backache or a terrible headache? Don't take pains to go to a hospital and wait for hours seeking an appointment with a doctor. Instead, e-Seva centres offer medical advice from specialists sitting in Apollo Hospital via e-network.

Thanks to a zero-profit tie-up between the Andhra Pradesh Government and Apollo Hospitals, people now can come to e-Seva centres and talk to doctors live. "Apart from specialist consultation during fixed hours, this service often avoids a hospital visit from distant places," Ms Sangitha Reddy, Director (Operations) of Apollo Hospitals, said at the inaugural of the service at e-Seva's Khairtabad outlet here.

"As it progresses, we can even do reviews and look at multiple uses of the service," she said. One of the applications could be consultation for post-operative reviews for patients in far-off places. The fee for general consultation is put at Rs 120 and Rs 225 for consultation from specialists.

In the first phase, the telemedicine service would be offered throughout the 37 e-Seva centres in the twin cities and the neighbouring Ranga Reddy district.

The service also allows people to take a `quick health scan' in just five minutes. This technology solution will give a general indication on the health status based on an individual's lifestyle and other related parameters. The tool will hint at any possible attack of diseases, which include cancer and heart problems.
