New Delhi , Feb. 21

GEWISS, a European electrical equipment group, which had recently gone for a 50:50 joint venture with the India-based Control & Switchgear group (C&S), plans to shift its production facilities from Europe to India.

Gewiss would be closing its Portugal-based factory and source its products from the Indian joint venture, which has been christened as C&S Gewiss India Ltd.

According to Mr Domenico Bosatelli, President of the Gewiss Group, "Gewiss is planning to shift its Penafiel factory which is producing modular equipment for low voltage installations. This is one of the seven plants operated by it in Europe and it will be the first time that the Group will be venturing out of Europe."

The Group currently has eight wholly-owned companies in Spain, the UK, Germany, Italy, Portugal and France. C&S Gewiss is setting up its factory in Uttaranchal, which will be operational within the next quarter.
