Hyderabad , Feb. 24

BIOASIA 2004, the three-day day bio-business forum will begin here on February 26, is likely to witness the formation of an umbrella body of biotech associations in Asia, which will help in networking and advocacy.

About 500 delegates from 24 countries will take part in the forum, according to Mr B.P. Acharya, Secretary (Industries and Commerce, Govt of AP), and Chairman of BioAsia Organising Committee.

Addressing a press conference here on Monday , he said about 50 stalls would be set up for the biotech expo to be organised simultaneously.

During the conference, Dr M.S. Swaminathan, UNESCO Cousteau Chair in Ecotechnology and Chairman of M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation, and Prof William Rutter, Chief Executive Officer of Synogenics LLC, will be conferred on the prestigious `Genome Valley Excellence Award' for their outstanding contribution in the field of biotechnology.

"The forum will facilitate match-making between seekers and providers," Mr Acharya said. The meeting will discuss marine biotechnology, molecular genetics, new paradigms in biopharmaceutical business, outsourcing and genetically modified organisms. Several memoranda of understanding are likely to be signed during the three-day event.
