Kochi , Feb. 26 THE School of Industrial Fisheries of the Cochin University of Science and Technology is organising a three-day workshop on `Breeding, farming and management of ornamental fishes' to create greater awareness among the student community, faculty and the extension workers of the Government on the immense potential available in the sector. The inaugural session of the workshop will be held at the School of Marine Sciences on February 27, which will be inaugurated by Dr K. Gopakumar, former Deputy Director General, Fisheries, the Indian Council for Agricultural Research, New Delhi. The function will also witness the release of the second edition of the compact disc on `Ornamental fish and their business in Kerala', which has been compiled by Prof A. Ramachandran and his associates. The endeavour will also seek to transfer the knowledge generated from the project `Indigenous ornamental fishery and its potential as a commodity for developing a market in India and abroad', which was carried out by the school. This would also provide a common platform for the huge body of recent research conducted all over the world on varied aspects. The workshop will include sessions on aquarium design, construction, setting up, managing and maintaining of aquariums as well as impart knowledge on maintaining water quality, packaging and transportation of live ornamental fishes.
