Wipro sees traction in `managed services'

Consultants at Wipro enable businesses to outsource their entire information technology operations.

Hyderabad , March 21

WIPRO Infotech Ltd, a global technology solutions provider, sees a significant traction in the industry towards what it describes as a new breed of `professional services,' particularly remotely managed applications.

The Chief Executive Officer of Professional Services, Wipro Infotech, Mr Thandava Murthy, told Business Line that Wipro's professional services are aimed at helping enterprises find new ways to do business in order to achieve and sustain market leadership. It encompasses a whole gamut of business applications right from IT consulting, system integration, package implementation, managed IT Services — both onsite and remote, enterprise services and business process outsourcing.

Under this initiative, consultants at Wipro enable businesses to outsource their entire information technology operations. Mr Murthy said Wipro consultants ensure that the customers IT systems are up and running round the clock. This practice offers a host of value-added hardware and software, multi-vendor support and upgrade services. Several corporations have found this approach convenient since they do not have to bother with day-to-day concerns on IT by outsourcing their requirements.

Within these services, the call centre industry is passing through a phase of swift growth. For many organisations, particularly in the services industry, data centres have assumed business criticality. And in such cases, including Facilities Management, enterprises are seeing value in outsourcing the management of the centres.

The area of managed services, particularly onsite, has begun to witness a new phase of growth. The company has about 14 clients and this segment is growing at a rapid pace of about 34 per cent per annum. "We are eyeing markets in West Asia and Asia Pacific for remote management services," he explained.
