Railways records 555.74 mt of revenue freight

REFLECTING the buoyancy in the core sector, the Railways loaded a record 555.74 million tonnes (mt) of revenue-earning goods traffic in the recently concluded financial year, as per the provisional figures available.

This is 37 mt higher than the previous year when the Railways carried 518.74 mt traffic, an official release said today.

It is also 15.74 mt more than the budgeted target of 540 mt for 2003-04 and 5.74 mt more than the revised target of 550 mt, the release said.

During March 2004, the Railways carried 52.04 mt of revenue freight against the target of 50.78 mt, registering an increase of 1.26 mt over the proportionate monthly target.

The Interim Railway Budget for 2004-2005 has projected a target of 570 mt for the new financial year.
