Tea Downtrend in Kochi tea sale Our Bureau
Kochi , April 4 PRICES of dust and orthodox teas at the auction here were lower despite fair general demand. In the dust sales, 6,08,000 kg were on offer. The market opened at steady levels but as the sale progressed the prices fell. However, orthodox was steady. The prices quoted per kg were Best CTC Rs 55/Rs 77, Medium CTC Rs 48/Rs 53, Poorer type Rs 40/ Rs 45 and high-grown BOPD Rs 85/Rs 122. In the leaf sales section 1,86,000 kg were offered. Orthodox brokens and whole leaf grades were lower by Rs 2 to Rs 3. Fannings were steady to dearer. CTC high-priced teas lower, others easier by Rs 1 to Rs 1. Exporters to CIS operated in less strength. Secondaries and low-priced orthodox witnessed good demand for other exporters. Prices quoted were Best Nilgiri Rs 46/Rs 63 (broken), (fannings) Rs 48/Rs 70 (fannings), Medium orthodox Rs 35/Rs 52 (broken), Best CTC leaf (broken) Rs 48/Rs 53, Rs 50 (fannings), and medium CTC leaf Rs 37/Rs 44 (broken), Rs 42/Rs 48 (fannings). Top prices in the dust sales were fetched by Kodanad CL-BOPD (Rs 122 a kg) and Pasuparai FD (Rs 110 a kg). In the leaf section, Kodanad BOPF-CLRs topped with Rs 90 followed by Chamraj OP Rs 89 a kg.
