Promotions & Offers Variety - Sports Samsung Olympics promotion zeroes in on cell phone buyers Richa Mishra
New Delhi , April 30 EVEN before the euphoria on the recently concluded Indo-Pak cricket series has subsided, Samsung India Electronics has unveiled its Olympics promotion. During the Samsung Cup (Indo-Pak cricket series) the focus was on colour televisions and notebook PCs, but this time round, the company (which is a wireless communications sponsor for the forthcoming 2004 Athens Olympics) has launched its `Share the experience' promotion for mobile phones. In fact, this year the company will be spending 30 per cent of its total marketing fund on sports promotion, primarily cricket and the Olympics. The `Share the experience' promotion, valid between April 23-May 31, entitles all Samsung mobile phone buyers during the period to a lucky draw whereby the company will select three winners who will be taken to Athens to watch the games live. Elaborating on the concept, Mr R. Zutshi, Director-Sales, Samsung India revealed that to participate in the promotion consumers have to complete the product registration card and send it to the company. They also have the option of registering online on www.samsung.com/india. The company, which is the presenting sponsor for the first international global torch relay, ran a nomination programme between February 9 and March 2 called `Run for Ur Dream' to select torchbearers to carry the Olympics torch when it arrives in New Delhi, he said. The torchbearers will be announced in May. The Olympics torch, that leaves Greece on March 25, will travel around the world for 35 days visiting 34 cities across 27 countries. It arrives in India on June 10 from Beijing and will leave for Cairo the same night. In Delhi 100 torchbearers will carry the torch through prominent parts of the city.
