Farm credit Karnataka Bank to offer aid to vanilla growers M.J. Vinayak
Adyanadka , May 2 KARNATAKA Bank is planning to extend three schemes for vanilla growers. In the first scheme, the bank will extend financial assistance to growers who take up vanilla cultivation as an intercrop in arecanut and coconut plantations. Vanilla as a pure crop under glyrecidia plants is eligible for financial assistance under the second scheme. Under the third scheme, the bank will extend loan facility to vanilla cultivated under `shade net' method. This was disclosed by the Agriculture Officer of the bank, Mr Ramesh Vaidya, at the Varanashi Agriculture Meet - 2004, here. Delivering a lecture on "Role of banks in agriculture development", he said that apart from the above schemes the bank would extend 1 per cent rebate in interest rate if the farmer repays promptly. The "Punaschetana scheme" of the bank would help convert short-term loans of farmers to long-term one in the drought-affected areas.
