Talks on drought relief

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A Central team, headed by Mr Sateesh Chander, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture, on Thursday wound up the evaluation of losses inflicted by the recent drought on standing crops in the State.

Ironically, the final round of discussions with State Government officials took place at the Secretariat here even as it rained heavily outside.

This was not the first time that a fact-finding mission on drought relief had had to negotiate heavy downpour on its arrival for talks. The team had visited Palakkad, Wayanad and Alappuzha districts during the past three days even as rainfall was being reported from various parts of the State. Thiruvananthapuram City also had been receiving good showers during the past few days.

The visiting team had met with the Chief Minister, Mr A.K. Antony, the Chief Secretary, Mr N. Chandrasekharan Nair, and the Revenue Secretary, Mr S. Sundereshan, among others, during its stay here.

Earlier, it had met with the Revenue Minister, Mr K.M. Mani, in Kottayam.
