Our Bureau

KOCHI: The district administration has launched a massive relief programme to rehabilitate hundreds of families from the coastal villages of Kochi and Kanayannur taluks who have been rendered homeless by sea erosion.

More than 600 families have been shifted to relief centres on the orders of the District Collector. The village officers and tahsildars have been directed to open rehabilitation camps in schools and public institutions. In all, 13 relief camps were opened on Friday in various coastal villages in Kochi taluk.

The Collector also directed that sufficient vehicles be taken on lease for transporting people to relief camps. The medical authorities have been directed to provide sufficient medicines at the camps.
