ARC offers accident cover

Hyderabad , May 7

MAKING accident insurance affordable to the common man, Bangalore-based Accident Relief Care (ARC) has tied up with United India Insurance Company to offer accident cover at Re 1 a day for residents of the twin cities.

"On registration, the company enrols the name with United Insurance," said, Mr Ajay Singh, Promoter of ARC.ARC has a fleet of eight ambulances. On getting a phone call from members or their family members, ARC immediately sends its ambulance to the accident site.

Dr Singh felt that distress was monetary in most cases. "We want to address that," he said.In case of death, the family members of the victim would get Rs 1 lakh.

The scheme, which was launched in Bangalore four years ago, covers entire hospitalisation costs in case of accidents with a ceiling of Rs 1 lakh."Remember, the cover is Rs 1 lakh an accident and not the total cover for the whole year," he explained.

Addressing the press on Friday, he said the company had tied up with 30 top hospitals and 15 diagnostic centres in Hyderabad. Mr Singh stated that the number of hospitals will go up to 100 this year.

He said the company had a membership of 2.5 lakh in Bangalore, where it settled claims worth Rs two crore."Our aim is to offer cashless hospitalisation. If they(members) met with accidents outside of Hyderabad, we will reimburse their medical expenses after verifying the veracity of their claims," affirmed Dr Singh.

While the annual fee for individuals is fixed at Rs 365 per piece (excluding a registration fee of Rs 85), insurance per couple is offered for Rs 800 and for the whole family the fee amounts to Rs 1,350.

ARC is now aiming at a membership of three lakh in the twin cities. However, there are some exclusions like self-injury, suicides and murders. The membership also entails members a 25 per cent discount on routine tests at major diagnostic centres.
