`MRF, top consumer of natural rubber'

MRF Tyres is the biggest consumer of natural rubber in India during 2002-03, according to the latest figures compiled and released by the Rubber Board.

Then comes Apollo Tyres Ltd followed by about 55 manufacturers,

The other top 10 are Ceat Ltd, JK Industries, Vikrant, Birla Tyres, Goodyear India Ltd, Ralson India Ltd, Metro Tyres, Govind Rubber, TVS Srichakra and Balakrishna Industries Ltd. There are about 57 manufacturers whose consumption exceeded 1,000 tonnes of NR during 2002-03.

There are about 36 manufacturers, whose consumption varied between 500 and 1,000 tonnes during the same period.

Of them, the major five consumers are Superking, Bairathi Shoe Co, Century Fibre Plates, IG Shoes and Kemrub Ltd in descending order.
