Quantitative restrictions

This is with reference to the article "All's not well on the farm front" (Business Line, May 11). As rightly pointed out in the article, it can be said that the country is no longer facing the "problem of plenty".

It is also shameful that in the last five-six years more than 20 million Indians have been added to the list of undernourished Indians.

Also, once the quantitative restrictions are removed, the markets will be flooded with food products from other countries.

Though this will make the cost of food products cheaper, it is bound to affect the livelihood of the farmers.

The Government will have to take appropriate measures to ensure that the farmers do not suffer if and when the quantitative measures are removed.
