Good turnout in Lakshadweep

Our Bureau

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Over 81.49 per cent of the electorate in Lakshadweep exercised their franchise on Monday despite having been hit by last week's severe cyclonic rain.

Amini Divi island, which recorded the highest-ever rain fall during a 24-hour period during the last week, also returned the highest polling of 91.19 per cent. It was closely followed by Agathi. Minicoy, a third island, had returned the lowest polling of 64 per cent.

There were 40 polling stations across the islands. The rain had damaged large stretches of road and in most places the voters had to walk to the polling booths.
