Hyderabad , May 23

PERTURBED over the growing number of suicides by farmers, the Andhra Pradesh Government has directed all the District Collectors to submit a detailed report by Monday analysing the reasons for their suicides and asked them to take steps to instil confidence among the farming community.

In its first meeting held here on Sunday, the State Cabinet discussed the issue in detail and wanted the Collectors to go to the houses of the farmers, talk to their kin and know the reasons for the extreme step.

The Collectors were to collect information on the suicides reported after Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy taking over as Chief Minister.
