Sahay takes charge

NEW DELHI: Mr Subodh Kant Sahay assumed charge as the Minister of Food Processing Industries on Tuesday. He said that food processing was an area directly linked to farmers' welfare. He emphasised the need to develop this area for providing more employment opportunities to farmers and the youth.

Senior ministry officials briefed Mr Sahay about the functioning of the department in preserving surplus agricultural products and preventing wastage. The Secretary, Mr J. Vasudevan, informed the minister that a State-specific plan for processing fruits and vegetables had been drafted by the ministry.
