TEA to add new features to knitwear portal

Coimbatore , June 3

THE Tirupur Exporters' Association (TEA) is to add value to its refurbished garment industry Web site `tea-india.org'.

Adding e-ticketing (e-auctioning) for airline bookings and providing links with trade chambers/apparel associations/buyer-houses worldwide and global fair/events were some of the new features to be incorporated in the TEA portal shortly, said Mr C.S. Manoharan, chief executive officer of the city-based Axon Infosoft India Pvt. Ltd.

The company entered into a memorandum of understanding with the association a couple of months ago to reactivate the portal and develop it into an exclusive knitwear industry Web site. Though the Web site was started by the association a year ago, it remained passive until the TEA managing committee had decided to make the portal a live one early this year.

Axon Infosoft is to offer technology to run the Web site, Web product promotion and space selling. Besides the `nominal' subscription fee from TEA member-exporters and the charges from the registered users of diverse categories of industries figuring in the `supplier showcase', advertisement would be the key revenue earner for the business-to-business portal.

The Web site gives access to inputs on at least 20 pavilions of knitwear industry-linked service sectors such as raw material suppliers, bankers, logistics, machinery dealers and forex information.

According to Mr R.M. Subramaniam, advisor to the TEA, his association has set up a seven-member cell to handle the portal and its members are keen to develop the site as a `wholesome ` knitwear industry Web site.
