Telecommunications Tata Indicom shifting to 10-digit no in AP circle Our Bureau
Hyderabad , June 3 TATA Indicom has announced that it is shifting to 10-digit numbering under TRAI's Universal Access Licence regulation. The number change will be implemented in Andhra Pradesh circle from June 4. This number change to 10-digits will be applicable to all Tata Indicom mobile customers across the country within the next few days. It has been assigned the 92 series by the Department of Telecommunications. After this change, the numbering plan of Tata Indicom mobiles will be similar to that of other GSM mobile operators. The number change is in line with the national numbering plan for mobiles as mandated by TRAI for Universal Access Licensees. The implementation of this plan across the remaining circles will be over in the next 10 days. The Tata Indicom numbering series across India will change from the existing format of `STD code + Telephone number' to a new 10-digit number in the format of `92XYZ ABCDE'. In the new number format, 92 is the operator code for Tata Indicom, XYZ is the circle code (circle codes have been allotted by DoT for each service area) and ABCDE is the customer's phone number. The Chief Operating Officer of Tata Teleservices, Dr Naresh Malhan, in a statement said, "Tata Teleservices is the first Universal Licence service provider to announce the 10-digit numbering plan in line with TRAI regulation. Tata Indicom customers can now be reached from any phone in AP, without the caller needing a STD facility. With roaming and calls across the circle attracting only local call rates, our customer's accessibility is truly enhanced." "We are taking all measures to ensure that the migration to the new system is smooth and hassle-free for our customers. Tata Indicom has also developed software to ensure that information can be obtained via SMS that is sent to 120 for Indicom customers and 92120 00120 for others." Customers can receive calls on both the old and new numbers till June 30. In addition, anybody sending an SMS to the old 8-digit number will in turn receive an SMS informing him/her about the new 10-digit number.
