New Delhi , June 4 WEBASTO AG, a Germany-based automotive sunroofs maker, and Sumi Motherson of India are setting up a joint venture in the country with an initial investment of 1.5 million euro. The joint venture, Webasto Motherson Sunroofs, would be 51 per cent owned by the 1.28-billion-euro German firm while the Rs 1,000-crore Indian group would have 49 per cent stake in it, Mr Guenther Schwanitz, General Manager (emerging markets), Webasto, said at a press conference here. Initially, the Webasto Motherson Sunroofs will have an assembly unit in Noida and later utilise the facilities of Sumi Motherson. ``We will make the Indian operations a sourcing hub for the SAARC region,'' he said. The Webasto Motherson President, Mr Arvinder Gill, said the company was in talks with a number of companies for supplying car sunroofs as original equipment manufacturer (OEM). "We are targeting both the OEM and the aftermarket segment. We hope to supply automotive sunroofs for 7,000 to 10,000 units in the first year and over the years increase it to 1,80,000 to 2,00,000 vehicles,'' Mr Gill said. According to Mr Schwanitz, the Indian automotive lifestyle products segment holds a lot of potential and the company is looking to introduce its entire range of automotive sunroofs here.
