Accidents IOC may resume operations at Rajbandh tomorrow Our Bureau
Kolkata , June 5 INDIAN Oil Corporation (IOC) proposes to resume normal operations at its Rajbandh depot from Monday, according to a spokesman for the company. "The fire has been fully contained and there appears to be no risk in starting the operations," the spokesman said pointing out that the storage tank ravaged by the fire had been totally isolated from 19 other tanks in the depot. The fire, as it was pointed out, had reached the sludge level and would be put out within a few hours. Referring to the complaints by several State Government agencies that the fire-fighting arrangements at the depot left much to be desired, the spokesman said that the arrangements were as per the oil industry safety norms. There had been no violation of the norms at any stage. "But nobody was prepared for the disaster of such a scale," he observed. "Besides, we are oil people, not fire fighters". The spokesman complimented the State Government for rendering all kinds of assistance. The senior officials of IOC are now camping at Rajbandh. The Executive Director (Supplies), Mr C P Joshi, is there coordinating the entire gamut of operations to maintain the normal supplies. The fact-finding committee was already on the job and the assessment of the damage would be possible only after the fire had been completely extinguished, the spokesman added.
