Ban on deep-sea fishing in Karnataka

Our Bureau

MANGALORE: The Department of Fisheries has banned deep-sea fishing by mechanised boats from June 10 to August 15 along the Karnataka coast.

A press release by the Deputy Director of Fisheries, Mr Suresh Kumar Ullal, said here on Monday that the deputy commissioners of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts have issued separate notifications banning deep-sea fishing by mechanised boats along their coast.

The Government will not give compensation in case of any mishap in the sea during the period.

Stating that action would be taken against those violating the ban, the release said that the department would withdraw tax-free diesel facility and other benefits to fishermen in such cases.
