Rubber prices continue to rise

SPOT rubber prices continued to scale new heights on Monday.

Sheet rubber RSS 4 closed at Rs 61 a kg against Rs 60.50 on Saturday. The covering groups and purchase agents procured the extremely thin arrivals offering the highest rate after eight years.

Traders were expecting sheet rubber to touch Rs 65 a kg in the weeks ahead. Meanwhile smuggling of the raw material is reported to have hit the highest level, according to informed sources.

The rubber futures turned positive quoting the June delivery at Rs 61.25 (60.90) a kg on Monday. The near month July delivery was quoted at Rs.60.28 (59.70), August delivery at Rs 58.39 (58.21) and September delivery at Rs 57.45 (57.32) per kg for RSS 4.The volumes were better.

At Bangkok, RSS 3 was steady at Rs 61.72 a kg and the TOCOM July futures for the same grade improved to 154.7 yen from 152.4 yen a kg on Friday.
