Letters Ensuring safety
This is with reference to "Rlys seeks Rs 2,000 cr more for safety, expansion work" (Business Line, June 10). Railway safety cannot be at the mercy of funds. Safety has to be ensured in totality out of the fares/charges as a first charge from the revenues collected. The CMP proposes a cess on education. Likewise, safety can be guaranteed by the government by levying a cess for safety besides instituting safety awards individual and group. Incentives can also be thought of for Railway staff.
