Roadways Foundation laid for Rs 1.5-cr Transport Bhavan in AP Our Bureau
Hyderabad , June 10 THE Chief Minister, Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, on Thursday laid the foundation stone for the construction of `Transport Bhavan' that would house the offices of the Transport Department, including that of the State Commissioner of Transport. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that the 30,000-sq. ft. building would be constructed at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore. Dr Reddy said there was heartburn among the employees that some people were heading Government organisations even after retirement and, in some instances, after attaining the age of 70 years. He said the practice of re-appointment of retired employees as heads of the organisations was affecting the careers of regular employees. The Transport Commissioner, Mr C.R. Biswal, said that the transport building would be completed in six months and his department was planning to move into the new premises by January 1, 2005. At present, the Transport Department was located in Burugula Ramakrishna Bhavan, which was congested and has inadequate parking facilities. He said that revenues of the transport department has increased to Rs 1,053 crore last fiscal from Rs 918 crore in the previous year. The revenues were expected to go up to Rs 1,250 crore in the current year. The State Capital accounted for 30 per cent of the revenues of the department.
