Foreign Trade Trade ties with Mexico to be strengthened Our Bureau
New Delhi , June 10 INDIA and Mexico have resolved to reinforce bilateral economic cooperation and step up trade and investment with a view to fully realising the potentials for mutual growth on a sustainable basis. The Minister of State for Commerce and Industry, Mr E.V.K.S. Elangovan, stated this here when the Mexican delegation headed by Mr Lic Franccisco Javier Ramfrez Acuria, Constitutional Governor of the State of Jalisco, called on him on Thursday. During the interaction, Mr Elangovan raised the problems facing the Indian exporters in obtaining visa from Mexico in executing their export orders or participating in trade fairs and exhibitions. Mr Acuria assured him that the business visa would be expedited in a smooth manner so that the exporters from India or trade fair organisers need not get hassled. Both the leaders emphasised the need for diversifying the trade basket so as to enhance the economic cooperation. India's exports to Mexico during the first three quarters of 2003-04 fiscal (April to December) amounted to $172.56 million, while it imported goods worth $49.84 million, reflecting a positive trade balance for India.
