Tea Brisk activity at Coimbatore tea e-auction Our Bureau
Coimbatore , June 15 INTO the third week of e-auction, the Coimbatore Tea Trade centre is witnessing hectic activity with one-sixth of the offered quantity (51,593 kg) being routed through the new trading system. The total quantities on offer stood at 3.02 lakh kg, of which leaf grade made up 1.30 lakh kg and dust accounted for 1.72 lakh kg. Quality orthodox leaf grade teas saw good demand from the CIS and Iraq buyers, and these were quoting at firm to dearer rates of Re 1 to Rs 1.50 per kg. There was good demand for orthodox dust grades as well. CIS and Polish buyers lifted quality CTC leaf, with Iraq and Pakistan enquiring after smaller sorts. Internal trade was less active in this counter, though the market for the best sorts ruled firm, quoting between Rs 50 and Rs 60 a kg. The electronic auction rates remained high, with the Tiger Hill CLOP touching a high of Rs 77 per kg, while the Mayura RD reached Rs 70 a kg.
