KNOWLEDGEWorks Global Ltd, a joint venture between Datamatics Technologies and Cadmus Communications Corporation, on Monday announced that it is setting up a second BPO facility here.

With a capacity of seating 600 people in three shifts, the centre will provide services to publishers of scientific, technical, medical and educational material. The services would include copy-editing and composition. The centre currently has a strength of 50 and will scale up to 150 in the next two years, according Mr Manish Modi, CEO and Managing Director, DTL.

Cadmus holds 80 per cent stake in the year-old joint venture while DTL holds the rest. Asked if cost savings are between 30 and 50 per cent as in the other India-based business process outsourcing ventures, Mr Modi said, "It depends. Typically, doing up a page costs between $5 and $10 here, while it could cost you between $40 and $50 in the US."

Commenting on the margins in the business, Mr Modi said, "DTL does not, as a policy, conduct business that would give us less than 30 per cent margins."

Mr Walter Peter, Chairman of KGL and Senior Vice-President, Cadmus, said, "We also recruit Ph Ds for the knowledge they bring."

Asked if knowledge with regard to content in scientific journals mattered in back-office publishing, he said, "They should be able to spot obvious errors and revert to the authors of what is mostly original research material."
