New Delhi , July 3

THE Finance Minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, has decided to make field visits for on-the-spot review of the progress in disbursement of agricultural credit soon after the presentation of the general budget.

Attaching the highest priority to agricultural credit, Finance Minister has asked Chairman and Managing Directors (CMDs) of all public sector banks to ensure that a general manager in the corporate office of each bank is specifically designated to look after this task.

This nodal General Manager would be required to undertake frequent field visits for reviewing the flow of credit, providing guidance to field functionaries and taking such remedial measures as may be considered necessary. The CMDs have been asked to personally review the progress of implementation of the policy package on agriculture credit announced by the Finance Minister on June 18.
