Natural Calamities Another farmer ends life in AP Our Bureau
VISAKHAPATNAM: V. Venkata Ramana (43), a farmer at Venkupalem village in the Anakapalle mandal of Visakhapatnam district, committed suicide on Thursday night unable to bear the debt burden, according to the police. The police officials, who visited the village on Friday morning, said the farmer, possessing less than an acre of land, had resorted to the extreme step on Thursday night by consuming pesticide. He is survived by wife, a daughter and two sons. The incident shows that the problem is spreading to all parts of the State. Till now, the north-coastal districts of Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam have remained untouched in spite of the spate of suicides of farmers all over the State. One of the reasons cited by the analysts is that the farmers in these districts are more used to subsistence farming than those in other districts.
