Financial Performance Corporate Results - ISPs Sify operating profit, revenues dip Q-on-Q Our Bureau
Chennai , July 19 SIFY Ltd has reported a net loss of Rs 5.47 crore ($1.19 million) in the quarter ended June 2004, compared to a net loss of Rs 20.70 crore ($4.50 million) for the same quarter the previous year. Its operating profit for the June 2004 quarter was Rs 7.59 crore ($1.65 million) compared to a net loss of Rs 6.39 crore ($1.39 million) in the same quarter the previous year. In the quarter ended March 2004, it reported an operating profit of Rs 11. 91 crore ($2.59 million). A net profit of Rs 2.35 crore ($0.51 million) in the March 2004 quarter included a one-time gain of Rs 6.30 crore ($1.37 million) from the sale of Sify's stake in Wisden CricInfo. Sify's revenues this quarter dipped 5.74 per cent to Rs 77.77 crore ($16.91 million) compared to Rs 82.51 crore ($17.94 million) in the quarter ended March 2004, but rose 29.4 per cent from Rs 60.11 crore ($13.07 million) compared to the quarter ended June 2003. A statement from the company indicated that price reductions in the dial-up and a drop in one-time revenues in cyber-cafes resulted in lower revenues. It added that the company's revenues in "non-recurring hardware sales to the retail business" also declined in the quarter. The company's corporate services contributed 56 per cent of the quarter's revenues while the retail Internet access accounted for 37.5 per cent. The cyber café business, branded iWay, increased the number of access points to around 1,875. These cafes host about 14,000 PCs and services 650,000 users. The company's statement said that six million minutes of international calls had been made through its Internet telephony service.
