Hyderabad , July 22 THE International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (Icrisat) has initiated a new project with the Philippine Council for Agriculture, Forestry and Natural Resources (PCARRD) to enhance the adoption of the institute's peanut, chickpea and pigeonpea varieties and production technologies in the Philippines. The project is a part of the cooperation between Icrisat and the Philippine Department of Agriculture Bureau of Agricultural Research (PDABAR), to improve legume production in the Philippines. The two-year project will utilise the attributed grant of $50,000 from the Philippines Government to Icrisat for the development of agriculture in the country. In addition to serving as the coordinating agency of the project, according to an Icrisat release here on Wednesday, the institute would provide the seeds of improved varieties and relevant technologies, technical advice and training for the project staff. On the other hand, PCARRD will provide institutional support for planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. It will also be the executing agency for the project.
