Chennai , July 28

AYUSH, Hindustan Lever Ltd's (HLL) brand of ayurvedic products and therapy centres, is actively considering a global foray.

Speaking to newspersons at Mamallapuram's GRT Temple Bay resort , where HLL has opened an Ayush centre, Mr Vipul Chawla, Business Manager (Consumer Healthcare), HLL,said the company is eyeing Singapore and Dubai to begin its global expansion.

The company was "besieged" with enquiries from various parts of the world, even those as far as Stockholm, he added. HLL is also going to start exporting the products.

The brand has just launched its second shampoo, Poshak, and a beauty cream, Mr Chawla said. The shampoo is priced at Rs 2 for 7 ml and Rs 40 for 100 ml. The cream costs Rs 10 for a 9 gm pack and Rs 30 for a 250 gm pack.

The therapy centres, which now number 12 across six cities, saw nearly 1,500 customers use their services per day the previous week, Mr Chawla said, in reply to a question on how they were doing.

Chennai, which has five centres and is the biggest market, would have two more centres by September. One of these would be located in the GRT Grand hotel. HLL plans to have a total of 30 centres functioning by end 2004.

The Coimbatore-based Arya Vaidya Pharmacy provides the expertise and trains the personnel employed in the therapy centres. It also endorses the products marketed under the Ayush brand.
