Beer makers to sponsor Kozhikode soccer team

Kochi , July 30

INERTIA Industries Ltd, makers of Zingaro beer, has signed an agreement to sponsor Exclusive Football Club, the reigning champions of the Kozhikode football league.

Announcing the sponsorship at a press meet, Mr Girish Shah, General Manager (Marketing), Inertia Industries Ltd, said the idea was to promote soccer - a fast-paced and rugged game that fits well with the brand values of Zingaro.

A memorandum of understanding has been signed between Mr Shah and Mr P. Zakeer, Secretary of Exclusive Football Club, which has over 800 members in Kozhikode and other cities. The club will henceforth be called Zingaro Exclusive Football Club.

Under the agreement, the sponsor's name will be displayed on the jerseys of the players in all tournaments and club celebrations.

Mr Shah said 8.88 lakh cases of Zingaro beer were sold in the State in the first quarter of the current fiscal, which is slightly lower than the sales during the same period last year.

The early monsoons since May is one of the reasons for poor sales, he said. Mr Shah said the company had a 17 per cent market share in both light and strong brands in the State.
