Seminar on commodities in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: The need for strengthening market infrastructure and leveraging technology for growing commodity trading in India was emphasised by the speakers during the launch of a programme on "Commodities Futures Market" at the Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) here on Friday.

Mr Vepa Kamesam, former Deputy Governor of the RBI, who launched the programme, felt that the time had come for introducing option trading in Indian commodity markets.

ASCI Principal, Dr Siripurapu K. Rao, said that the programme was a part of the college's ongoing effort at building knowledge and skill base in Indian agriculture. Mr C.K.G. Nair, Director, Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, outlined the growth potential for commodities trading in India. Mr D.S. Komalkar, Director of Forward Markets Commission, highlighted the commission's development and regulatory role in strengthening the functioning of commodity markets.
