THE recent decision by the West Bengal State Electricity Board (WBSEB) to withdraw all concessions in power tariff applicable to industries has created a piquant situation.
Many bulk power-consuming industries fear that they may be forced to close down operations following the withdrawal of incentives and concessions in power tariff.
Assured by WBSEB of power at concessional rates for a fixed period, many industrial units have been set up in the last couple of years in the State.
These units will now have to pay more in view of the withdrawal of concessions .
The Hooghly Chamber of Commerce & Industry has made appeals to the West Bengal Government and WBSEB to honour all its commitments so as to ensure that industries do not close down because of reasons beyond their control.
The chamber has urged the State Government to ensure that the WBSEB continues with the existing concessions in tariff.
Any delay in taking such a step would seriously affect the financial status of such industries, the chamber fears.
