Tata Telecom renamed Avaya GlobalConnect

Our Bureau

Mumbai , Aug 4

TATA Telecom is to be renamed Avaya GlobalConnect; the Board of Directors of the company on Wednesday okayed the name, which now has to obtain shareholder approval and regulatory clearances.

This follows the completion of the transaction between the Tata group and Avaya, as per the share purchase agreement of April 2, 2004. Avaya Mauritius Ltd will now hold the shares held by the Tata group companies as well as buy out those shares, which public shareholders of the company have tendered in the open offer made by Avaya Mauritius, according to the company's news release.

The newly reconstituted Board of Directors comprises eight persons - Mr Mark Leigh who will be the new Chairman (also President, Avaya Asia Pacific), Mr Niru Mehta (Vice-Chairman, Tata Telecom), Mr David P. Johnson (Group VP, Small & Medium Business Solutions, Avaya), Mr Francis M. Scricco (Group VP, Avaya Global Services), Mr Amar Pai (VP, Finance, Operations and Corporate Controller, Avaya), Mr S. Ramakrishnan (MD, Tata Teleservices) and Mr C. B. Bhave (MD, National Securities Depository Ltd).

"India is fast becoming a force to reckon with in the global markets. Over the years, the company has exhibited a 26 per cent compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) and will continue to maintain a 22-25 per cent CAGR in the years to come," said Mr Leigh, the new Chairman of the company.

Avaya GlobalConnect will continue to offer end-to-end converged communication solutions to customers. It has an Avaya India Development Centre in Pune, which collaborates with Avaya labs in the Asia Pacific.
