BRICK kiln owners have demanded withdrawal of a Government order that makes it mandatory to use fly ash for producing bricks and sought better coal supply.

Claiming that fly ash affected the strength of bricks and was a health hazard for the labourers, the All-India Brick and Tiles Manufacturers' Association has demanded that the Government withdraw the order that requires 25 per cent fly ash to be used.

They have also demanded "core industry" treatment for coal allocation citing high cost and poor availability of the fuel.

"As against a normal price of Rs 2,500-3,000 per tonne, we are forced to cough up nearly Rs 5,000 per tonne," an association release said here.
