Allocation for Mangalore drainage project hiked

THE Karnataka Urban Development and Coastal Environmental Management Project (KUDCEMP) has revised allocations in the Mangalore sub-project with focus on the extension of underground drainage (UGD) system in the city.
Of the allocation of Rs 967.91 crore in the 10 coastal towns under KUDCEMP, Rs 306.29 crore has been allocated to the Mangalore sub-project.
Addressing presspersons here on Thursday, the Deputy Project Director, KDCEMP, Mr J.R. Lobo, said that allocation for UGD has been increased from the earlier Rs 48.55 crore to Rs 135.73 crore in the revised allocation.
He said that the contour map of the city has been prepared and the whole area is divided into 13 zones.
Mangalore, which has a 240-km UGD network, has two treatment plants. Rehabilitation and replacement of existing sewer mains, construction of additional UGD network, and construction of sewage treatment plants at Kavoor, Bajal, Moodshedde and Surathkal are being planned under the project, he added.
