Vellore institute signs MoU with Canadian consortium

Our Bureau

Chennai , Aug. 5

THE Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Consortium of Canadian Educational Institutions for Asia (CCEIFA) to help Indian students with admission at post-graduate levels to Canadian education institutions.

Mr G. Viswanathan, Chancellor, VIT, and Mr Derek Lee, Chairman, Foreign Affairs & Defence Committee, Member of Parliament, Government of Canada, signed the MoU.

Canada has emerged as a destination of choice for Indian students who are seeking an overseas degree. But these students have very little access to information about Canadian educational institutions and their requirements, Ms Laura Vekemans of Cambridge International College said.

It is to bridge this gap that the Consortium of Canadian Educational Institutions for Asia (CCEIFA) was formed. The main objectives of the organisation are to promote awareness of the Canadian education system and the educational institutions in Canada among the student community in Asia.

The CCEIFA also aims to increase the number of students coming from Asia to Canada to study. It has identified the VIT to be its host institution in India, whereby Canadian education institutions can offer joint programme along with VIT, to students from India. Students from India will have the option of studying one year in India at VIT and completing the rest at the institution in Canada.
