GD Foods to enter ready-to-eat segment

Sindhu J. Bhattacharya

New Delhi , Aug. 6

GD Foods, after diversifying its products range to include ketchups, jams and pickles, has decided to jump on to the ready-to-eat bandwagon.

It will be launching 24 RTE meals and instant pastes soon. Also, the company has decided to take its `Tops' brand to the US.

"We will launch ready-to-eat products and instant pastes. This will be done both in the Indian market as well as through our US foray. The company has conducted intensive sampling of the ready-to-eat range in the domestic and the US market before taking this decision," the company's Director, Mr Nitin Seth, told Business Line.

He said the company would be investing up to $50,000 in the US venture. The company is putting up a Rs 8-crore manufacturing unit at Neemrana in Rajasthan. The plant will manufacture ketchups, noodles, jams and ready-to-eat products.

The company markets its products through c&f agents, a chain of 450 distributors and a wide network of 40,000 retailers spread all over the country.

Mr Seth said GD Foods was targeting sales of Rs 40 crore this fiscal. While it is exporting pickles to the US, Dubai and Germany, the company plans to enter Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Britain.
