Low offtake at Coonoor tea sale

FLOOD situation in the western part of the country submerged the demand for tea when a volume of 11.56 lakh kg was offered for sale at the auctions conducted by the Coonoor Tea Trade Association (CTTA) here.

Barring a strong purchase from Kanpur, there was only a subdued demand from the upcountry buyers.

On the leaf front, the market was more active. Some of the high priced teas could manage to gain Rs 2 a kg. Overall, some 60,000 kg were sold for over Rs 60 a kg.

On an average, the plain dusts fetched Rs 35 a kg, while the better ones Rs 44. Plain leaf grades got Rs 35, while the better ones, Rs 51. For the next auctions, a volume of 12.38 lakh kg comprising 8.69 lakh kg of leaf and 3.69 lakh kg of dusts has been catalogued.
