New Delhi , Aug. 19

SCICOM Infotech Ltd, a software company focused on scientific and technical application solutions, today announced its tie-up with US-based Credence Systems Corporation to provide product development services for the latter's automatic test systems division, in a contract valued at $6 million (around Rs 27.8 crore) over three years.

Under the agreement, Scicom and Credence would jointly establish a product development centre at Noida to provide specialised services for developing new technologies and products in testing, validation and characterisation at the wafer and board level.

"Scicom will work on the user interface for the tester and also the diagnostic software for the tester," Dr Indranil Chakravarty, Managing Director of Scicom, said.

The product development centre based in Noida has 50 professionals, and would work closely with Credence Research and Development centres in San Jose and Milpitas in California, Ferndown in UK and St Etienne in France.

Commenting on the arrangement, Mr Ashok Belani, Vice-Chairman of Credence System Corporation said, "The arrangement which involves Scicom managing the centre brings value into the process as we do not have expertise to manage software development centre in India, including recruitment and training."

"Creating our own centre in-house would have taken a long time and Indian companies have the scientific background required. The business requirement is such that we wanted to scale it up fast and hence the arrangement was the logical solution," Mr Belani added.
