EPFO Web site yet to record change of Govt!

Ambarish Mukherjee

New Delhi , Aug. 19

ALMOST three months into the job as Union Labour Minister and having chaired four contentious meetings of the Central Board of Trustees (CBT) of the Employees Provident Fund Organisation as its Chairman, Mr Sis Ram Ola is yet to find a place in the official Web site of the EPFO.

According to the EPFO Web site - www.epfindia.nic.in - on Thursday, Dr Sahib Singh Verma, Labour Minister in the erstwhile NDA Government, is still the Labour Minister and CBT Chairman, while Mr Ashok Pradhan is shown as the Minister of State for Labour and Employment. It also features Dr Verma's picture. Mr Ola had assumed charge in the end of May this year.

Interestingly, it was Dr Verma who had made a formal announcement noting that the list of employers who have defaulted in paying their dues in time should also be put on the Web site on a monthly basis. Usually, it is found to be lagging by two months on a regular basis. But as on Thursday, instead of the figures for the end of July, the Web site features the defaulter list as on June-end 2004.

When contacted, a network administrator said that replacing a picture and names in a Web site should not take more than half an hour. Ideally, it should not take more than 10 minutes if the scanner is connected to the computer. However, changes at the EPFO, it appears, takes time.
