E-Governance YSR launches development programmes Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Aug. 20 THE Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, has launched a series of Government-sponsored programmes on the occasion of the birth anniversary celebrations of former Prime Minister, Mr Rajiv Gandhi, here on Friday. Apart from the draft youth policy to be known as "Rajiv Yuva Shakti" launched at Ravindra Bharathi in Hyderabad, the Chief Minister launched "Raj Internet Village" (RAJIV) programme in Chiluvuru in Guntur district through video-conferencing from the State Secretariat. He also inaugurated "Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas" being observed by the Union Ministry of Non-Conventional Energy Sources. The RAJIV programme proposes to provide Internet connectivity to every village in the State. It envisages setting up of 6,000 rural kiosks this year and 22,000 kiosks in two years. The on-going Velugu Project would facilitate the programme. On the other hand, the Rajiv Yuva Shakti policy was aimed at empowerment of youth, creation of jobs and undertaking welfare activities for the benefit of youth in the State. The State Government would make an annual allocation of Rs 200 crore for the programme. The draft youth policy would be finalised after taking suggestions from public up to November 1, this year. The State Cabinet on Thursday had approved a new housing policy accepting the recommendations of a seven-member Cabinet sub-committee that examined the issue. The recommendations of the sub-committee included construction of 6 lakh houses for the weaker sections this year and raising the unit cost of rural housing to Rs 25,000 and urban housing to Rs 40,000.
