Economy Haryana panel to redress industry woes Rajesh Ahuja

Chandigarh , Aug. 23 THE Haryana Chief Minister, Mr Om Prakash Chautala, has announced that a high-powered committee would be constituted under the chairmanship of the Principal Secretary, Mr B.D. Dhalia, for quick redressal of grievances of industry. Addressing a meeting of various industrial associations in Gurgaon, Mr Chautala said that the committee would have the Government officers and prominent industrialists as its members and it would submit its report to the Government. Mr Chautala disclosed that a Malaysian company would soon construct a super express highway connecting Rai-Sonipat with Bahadurgarh-Gurgaon and Palwal. This highway would also inter-connect three national highways passing through the State thus giving impetus to the industrial sector. His regime had also given its consent for the construction of metro rail project and it was prepared to bear its share of cost. He said that the Government had been promoting IT and food processing industry and this was the reason that today Gurgaon had emerged as a major centre in the field of information technology. He further said that 80 per cent of the total investment made in India by the Japanese companies was in Haryana thanks to its industrial-friendly climate and availability of infrastructure of high quality. While assuring all assistance to the industrial sector, Mr Chautala assured them adequate supply of electricity saying that Haryana would become a cut-free State from January 1. He disclosed that recently the Government had purchased power worth Rs 16 crore per day even from Bhutan to ensure that the consumers got power. He announced that the President, Dr A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, would inaugurate the 250 MW seventh unit of Panipat Thermal Plant on September 25 and the eighth unit would also be commissioned on December 31. Thereafter, there would be an uninterrupted supply of power to the industrial and agricultural sectors. Stating that his Government had given a number of incentives and concessions to trade and industry due to which these sectors had flourished. It was also the first State in the country to implement the value-added tax (VAT) system when it was introduced by the erstwhile NDA regime. The former President of Punjab Haryana and Delhi (PHD) Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Mr P.K. Jain, hoped that the grievances of the industry would be redressed soon. Others who also spoke included the President of the Gurgaon Industrial Association, Mr Naresh Yadav, the Vice-President of the Gurgaon Industrial Association, Mr N.P. Singh, the President of IT Association, Mr Pradeep Yadav, the President of IMT Manesar Association, Mr Paresh Nayyar, and the President of Sohna Industrial Association, Mr Khatana. Later addressing a meeting of industrialists of Karnal and Panipat at Panipat, Mr Chautala said that 7,000 industrial plots had been allotted to entrepreneurs in Haryana since July 1999 and an investment of Rs 10,000 crore would be made to develop industries on these plots thus creating employment opportunities for about two lakh people. Moreover, 208 large and medium scale units and about 5,000 small units were set up during the tenure of the present Government. About 80 acres of land had been acquired in Panipat by the Haryana State Industrial Development Corporation and it would soon undertake the development of the area, which would generate employment opportunities.
