Tourism Logistics - Airlines Silk Air eyes more flights to support tourism drive Our Bureau
Hyderabad , Aug. 25 AS the Singapore Tourism Board tries to woo Indian tourists with a new range of attractive options and a `desi' brand campaign targeting about half a million of them, Silk Air is considering plans to increase the number of flights from Hyderabad. The India Manager for Silk Air, Mr Chan Tsu Yuan, said it is difficult to comment on the overall increase as it is still under consideration. Silk Air operates four flights a week from Hyderabad and experiences about 80 per cent occupancy. The Area Director of Singapore Tourism Board (STB), Ms Briget Goh, said the number of tourists from India touched about 375,000 last year, and the tourism board aims to attract about half a million this year. In fact, the overall tourist inflow to Singapore dipped to about 309,0000 due to the incidence of SARS in the region. A team from STB and Silk Air, along with representatives of some Singapore based organisations, were in Hyderabad to interact with tour operators and potential visitors and explain the Singapore advantage. STB offered to provide the necessary marketing support to Indian tour operators. Explaining the recently evolved `Uniquely Singapore' brand, Ms Goh said this new destination brand showcases quintessential Singapore experiences and celebrates Singapore's unique blend of tradition, culture and modernity. The brand campaign in India seeks to strengthen the bonding among consumers, especially the Indian family. Ms Goh said, "If your guide book is over eight months old, simply burn it. The entire landscape is imaginatively represented with a slew of attractive offerings, and builds on the concept of gifting a family or a child with holidays, round the year. This is entirely developed with Indian talent who were specially flown to Singapore to develop the theme campaign."
