THE Director of the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK), Prof S.S. Moorthy, has said that interaction with industry will benefit the academia in developing new technologies and applications.

He was delivering the keynote address at the national-level industry-institute meet on "Energy and Lighting", organised by the Manipal Institute of Technology and the Indian Society of Lighting Engineers, at Manipal in Udupi district on Monday.

He said there is scope for industry-institute interactions in areas such as preparation of curriculum, training teachers, conducting short-term courses, testing and consultancy and joint and sponsored research.

Urging educational institutions to absorb new developments in energy-efficient lighting systems in their teaching and research activities, he said their curriculum should have illumination engineering, energy efficient lighting, and other related areas. For this, teachers have to be trained through short-term courses.
