Ashok Leyland's Aug domestic sales down

Our Bureau

Chennai , Sept. 7

ASHOK Leyland reported lower domestic sales in August over the same month last year. It sold 3,440 vehicles last month compared with 3,718 in August 2003.

The company's Managing Director, Mr R. Seshasayee, attributed the decline to production disruptions caused by the truckers' strike.

However, exports were higher; the company exported 583 vehicles compared with 231 in August 2003. Because of this, total sales in August, at 4,023 vehicles, were higher than the 3,949 units it sold in the same month last year. In April-August, Ashok Leyland sold 18,963 vehicles compared with 15,745 vehicles in the same period of 2003. Again, exports were substantially higher, at 2,618 vehicles (911).
